In partnership with DIBIA Athletic Development, Team DIBIA runs the Dream Essence of Sports Clinic and Miami Football Festival Clinic in June & July, providing free skills training to youth in underserved communities. The program provides youth ages 7 to 16 with the opportunity to participate in enrichment and sports activities in the summer months. Our clinic fosters social competence among youth through their involvement in sports, fitness, and educational activities. In addition to a variety of sports, youth participate in STEM projects and play-based social competence curriculum aimed at enhancing social skills. Youth are provided with Dream shirts, healthy snacks and awards.
Impact: Social and Emotional research has highlighted team sports and games as a method for youth to learn cooperation and teamwork and develop social and emotional life skills, which have direct correlation with the acquisition of interpersonal and intrapersonal qualities as well as academic success and school completion.
Success: Since 2013, more than 1,500 youth have participated in Dream Clinics. 2015 Essence of Sports Clinic showed that merging STEM and sports, increased the desire to pursue other career paths in science, technology and engineering. Parents enjoyed the conversations they were having with their children after camp each day. Children walked away with a new excitement about science and sports. One stated, “What I liked most about the Essence of Sports Clinic was that we were able to learn about science and how it relates to sports.”
